Charging a battery with a solar panel?
I have a ship with an automatic bilge pump, and I connect my battery (12 volt marine cycle deep) to a solar panel so that it maintains its charge when the bilge pump kicks in the bilge pump will only start in the rain. I want to know what specifications minimum solar panel must have to keep charging my batteries. The bilge pump will likely only last for an hour or two a week at most. Thanks advance for the help.
Hi Conrad Assuming your bilge pump is based around 2.6 amps, I suggest that with a solar panel with a power de 5 à 5,5 watts. (Are on sale here in Canada a couple of times a year for about $ 50) These provide 0.3 amps per hour, easily maintain battery charge and not require a charger limiter. Hope this helps.
