Learn to sail the USA way
The program can be easily divided into two parts. The keelboat sailing certification program consists of seven stages, while small sailing program includes two phases.
The small sailboat Standard Base requires no prior experience or qualifications. It is the first course on the small boat Sailing Program. Students must demonstrate a theoretical knowledge of the names and functions of various parts of a sailboat together with common terms, sailing and its ancillaries, the International Standards for preventing collisions at sea and in inland waters and hey should demonstrate a basic knowledge of safety procedures. On the practical side, they must prove they can tread water for 5 minutes and swim 100 meters, rigging, launching and retrieving the ship, set and adjust the sails, sails, both upwind and downwind, tack and jibe, correctly apply the rules of the road, a man recovering water, to recover from overturning, accept and approve a towing cable, tie four knots specified in a given time. At the end he or she will be able to sail on a sailboat of centerboard or multihull in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters.
The first course in the ship's keel Sailing Program Certification base is known as Keelboat. No experience or qualifications required. To complete the course, students will have to prove they can put a name and describe operations of different parts of a ship as the hull, keel, deck and stern. The components of both the operation and rigging. Different candles, including name of a candle – on foot, Leech, luff, head of strategy and clew. The different clubs, mast and boom. They are familiar with the terminology the candle is used to describe various maneuvers such as the sails and come about. Students understand the points of sail is hauled around, coming to or run. They include the basics of preventing collisions, including the rules of the road. They show that they are familiar with the regulations covering the registration and identification, proper waste disposal, which to notify in case of an accident and what safety equipment is required by law to be carried on a ship and how it is used. They will be able to demonstrate knowledge of beacon Participants will know how to anchor a boat and describe the choice of anchors and their attributes and defects. In the practical aspect must demonstrate skills in sail handling, you'll head competition as mooring, sailing both upwind and downwind, along with a successful course and jibe. It completed a successful man overboard recovery. Demonstrate that you know how to tie different knots 6 and understand their different uses. After completing the course students should be able to sail a boat about 20 feet long, with moderate winds in the waters of relatives.
The second stage is called the basic coastal cruising and students must have the Certificate of Basic Sailing Keelboat before taking this course. The course discusses safety on board including equipment and procedures. Understanding is necessary fire prevention and fighting. Students must demonstrate their knowledge of first aid and treatment of hypothermia. Basic meteorology is considered, and students must demonstrate an understanding of transmission of forecasts. Understanding the relationship between the master and crew and the respective rights of each is necessary. Students should be able to perform basic chartwork, background, background types, hazards, buoys, beacons and lights. The practical side of this course is in boat handling in power and sailing, man overboard recovery, different points of sail, curls and put hove, berthing and mooring and some knot work. When completed the sailor must be able to navigate safely in regional waters in a sailboat up to 30 feet in length, with moderate winds and sea conditions.
Trailerable Multihull Standard, this course is the second in the small-boat sailing. Can be taught as part of or following the basic course of coastal cruising. Completion of the basic keelboat is a prerequisite before taking this course. In theory students side must be able to identify and name different parts of a multihull which are not in a monohull including different wing covers, helmets, Cross arms, three point rig, the line of shoe, safety nets, seagulls and dolphins strikers. They will realize the advantages and disadvantages of multihulls including performance, comfort and safety in danger of capsizing. On the practical side of the sailor given: The allocation and leave the dock with at least two different directions wind on the bow and then return and dock, pick up a mooring buoy, a maneuver in a confined space, reverse recovery of a man overboard, the different points of sail, tacking and jibing, sailing a compass to 10 degrees. Is anchored in the following ways, bow anchor and bridle and single arc with a stern line to shore. When the sailors are able to cruise in complete safety of local and regional waters, both the captain and crew of a sailboat auxiliary multihull up 30 feet in length, in moderate wind and sea conditions.
Bareboat charter is the next stage. Participants are expected to keep the database Coastal cruise certificate before doing this course. The side of the theory to the development of both the crew and the cruise ship a week, including preparation of a passage plan. Meteorology is regarded as a look into the fog and onshore and offshore winds. Nautical looks and students should know what action is required if the engine fails, must know how to anchor the bow or stern of the boat. On the practical side, students will be able to perform tasks of daily and weekly maintenance, maneuvering the boat in power in a confined space, pick up a mooring buoy, using VHF radio. The following navigational skills are necessary, plan a course and the establishment of the compass and calculating an estimated time of arrival. The establishment of a solution using visual bearing. Use a table for the boat pilot in an unknown port. Students must obtain and interpret a shipping forecast. When completed the individual can act as skipper of a boat 50 feet long on the day surfing the waters coastal.
The next stage is known as Costa de navigation. This is a course in theory only and no previous experience or knowledge is necessary. Students must demonstrate knowledge of the various state and federal regulations relating to navigation. They must understand how the use of navigational instruments, including the direction, and having at hand compasses, binoculars, depth sounder, speedometer, the parallel state and dividers. Participants must show an understanding of the tables tide and its use when it comes to secondary ports. Must be able to convert compass bearings and between courses, the compass, magnetic and truth, one dead calculation plot position, understand the effect of current and leeway when estimating a position and a plot of the position by two or more bearings, a solution implementation and direction and distance. Finally, you must demonstrate knowledge of marking and lighting.
The course deals exclusively Cruising multihull catamaran and focuses on the differences of a sailor is opposed to sailing monohulls. Participants must have completed the stage of charter without pattern. In the theory of secondary students should be able to identify and name different parts of a multihull which are not in a monohull including decks different wings, helmets, arms of the Cross, three point rig, the line of shoe, safety nets, the strikers seagulls and dolphins. Be aware the advantages and disadvantages of multihulls, including performance, comfort and safety in danger of capsizing. On the practical side of the sailor will demonstrate: how to launch and leave of the dock with at least two different wind directions in relation to the bow and then return and dock, pick up a mooring buoy, a maneuver in a confined space, invest, recover a man to water, different points of sail, tacking and jibing, sailing a compass to 10 degrees. Is anchored in the following ways, two anchors from the bow or stern, anchor and the brake of a single arc with a stern line to shore and fixed bow tie. A person can complete the pattern of a multihull sailboat 50 feet long per day in coastal waters.
Advanced Coastal Cruising continues and participants must have completed both bareboat chartering and coastal navigation stages. Students must demonstrate a broad knowledge of the theory of sailing, the understanding of meteorology as different cloud formation and the time can expect from each. They understand the needs of navigation in bad weather, the sail changes necessary and the use of safety equipment and correct procedures. They will be able to describe: how to establish a second anchor to reduce body roll, how to retrieve an anchor of a failure, how to use a trip line and a anchor buoy and when and how to configure an anchor watch. It describes how to tow or be towed. They have a knowledge of distress signals. Students correctly describe the actions needed in emergency situations: a taking with the masts, sinking in a leeward coast and engine failure. The student will be able to carry out maintenance and repairs on the engine. In the water students must: sail on all points and course wind and sails in a wind of at least 15 knots, sailing a compass to less than 10 degrees, to conduct a man overboard recovery in the dark. It demonstrated its ability to establish, and navigate with a jibe, turn off and pack a spinnaker. And finally, who will remain a navigational watch on 20 miles by day and night. When a person has completed can the captain of a sailing vessel 50 feet long, both in day and night in coastal waters, regardless of the weather and sea.
The next stage is called Celestial navigation. The course is based on the theory and requires no experience or preparation. The student must be able to show celestial navigation required to navigate on a sailboat at sea in a passage. The successful student has demonstrated the ability to: Change in length over time and standard time and GMT time zone. They will be able to calculate: the local time zone length, the timing error given above error daily rate, the meridian passage time of the sun and calculate the latitude of the ship observed the meridian altitude of the sun, times of sunrise, sunset and twilight, the blue lines plot position on a Mercator projection or on a sheet universal plot and the true direction of a low altitude celestial body in order to determine the error and deviation of the compass. The student will be able to apply the corrections for index error, dip of the horizon, and the total correction to convert sextant altitude of the sun, the stars, planets and the moon at certain altitudes, determine the latitude at twilight through the North Star and the azimuth and the approximate height of the stars and planets navigation at dusk. Also be able to solve the navigation triangle using a navigation table and advance the LOP obtained from a Sun LoP another view from the sun at a later time and find a solution to position boat running (RUN-sol-sol).
This theory celestial can be implemented during the passage Making Offshore course. Participants must be certified to advanced coastal cruising. The student will plan and pass-through either the Pacific or North Atlantic using Great Circle Plotting Charts and climate diagrams. They must demonstrate an understanding of the essential factors that must considered when selecting a boat for offshore ocean passage of at least 1,000 miles, including construction and shape of hull, keel, rigging and rudder rate, fuel and water capacity. You must provide a list of tools and spare parts required for such a trip. Should provisioning of the boat for four people in step by seven days. It should list the items to be transported in the first aid kit and basic treatment to describe the injuries and illnesses that can occur along with the Identification of an advanced medical information source mare, while on passage. There will be a clock keeping system and define the duties of members crew, both on and off guard. Will design a maintenance plan to cover: the bilges, electronics, fuel system, hatches, cooking equipment, gear, safety equipment cocks at sea, the direction and the water system. Describes the procedures to be performed in emergency situations following: abandon ship, taking the masts, on board fire, lightning, man overboard. A broad knowledge of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at sea must be shown. When completed the course is the master mariner cans a sailboat at sea in the passages at any time.
