A halon gas fire extinguishers containing an extinguishing agent that is often used for electrical appliances as they are electrically non-conductive and leaves no residue. It has limited range of four to six feet.
Carbon dioxide fire extinguisher is the most effective for burning liquid and electrical fires. Dioxide Carbon or CO2 is stored as a compressed fluid that expands when dispersed and cools the surrounding air. Since the gas disperses quickly, this is only effective from three to eight feet. The liquid CO2 in the atmosphere dissolves clearly after extinguishing the fire.
Metal extinguishers are for fires of class D sodium chloride common extinguishing agent. There are a variety of other options depending on the type of metal you are working. If you are on flammable metals, must have a Class D unit approved that match your needs.
