How do I teach my child to swim?
I noticed that someone asked how old your child learn to swim, so it made me think. My daughter is 4 and does not know how to swim yet, but I'd like to show. But she has problems down in the water, even with a lifejacket or floaties. She gets scared. How would I go about teaching it or should I just wait until they get over their fears?
Hi Starlight, no, you should not wait until you get over her fear. Like many other parents here, I agree, you need to have your face and overcome his fear of being down in the water. I had my son wrapped his arms around my neck and kicked in the foot. I walked slowly around the pool and is used for floor laying and boost himself with kicks. Then I put my hand on her stomach, she needed and "doggie paddle" and was used to drive himself. Slowly, Just Let Go (as when taught to biking). It also helps to take the shallow end of the pool with floaties on, and have only interact with other kids who are good swimmers. Any child hates being left behind, and will give your desire to be included and start imitating the movements and swimming movements of others. This proved more effective with my son and how not to drag the child out of the pool ….. good luck to the two ~
