I read about different lures to use depending on the depth of the bass are feeding, but how do you determine this?
How do you determine if the bass are feeding deep or shallow? I guess if I see a lot of action on water, then the bass are feeding, but shallow is this always true? Also, what are some other ways to tell their depth? Please do not tell me you use a depth finder. If this luxury was available to me would not have a question.
in general, the season will tell you. early spring and through the eggs will superficial. you can see them in their nests. Times will vary according to which part of the country we live in the water begins to warm up faster in the south and west. summer, I have my best luck fishing unless the water surface temperature starts to move up in the eighties, then fish l night.after deeper or in the fall "turnover", the water mixture and the temperature will be pretty much constant throughout the water column. low will everywhere. then start packing for the winter and will take almost anything. summer and fall are my best times for topwaters. Then comes winter and fish become lethargic and move to deeper water where jigs and jig spoons work. fish slower and lower in winter. These are just my observations general. There are some fish shallow or deep the whole time and I'm sure you've noticed exceptions to this response. great, great question.
