What type of extinguisher should I buy for my apartment?
My boyfriend and I moved into an apartment about 3 months, our apartment has 2 smoke detetctors but I still feel uncomfortable about not having a fire extinguisher. The apartment is small: 1 room with 1 large living room and kitchen. I would love for someone with experience or knowledge on this to recommend certain extinguisher for us. I saw the sale, the other day that made me think. We have to heat the hot water and carpet in bedrooms, an electric dryer is also in the basement. Thank you!
Standard 5 or 10 pounds ABC class would be fine. if you feel really paranoid also get a small 5 pounds Class K for your kitchen. With 5 pounds you will have 12-15 seconds of use, 10 pounds is about of 17-21 seconds. for such a small area I would stick with 5 pounds, and either get it serviced annually or Chuck and get a new one, the dry chemical has a habit of hardening after a year or so and then all you get is compressed CO2. Ore wish people had the presence of mind to have a working fire extinguisher in the home … that make my job much easier.
