What is more important to ice fishing underwater Aqua-vu camera or vanes locator FL-8?
I've been thinking about buying a property Aqua-Vu or a Vexler FL 8 – or possibly Cabela http://lakekab.com. Anyone used both?
The vane is much more important than a camera! In ice fishing, a camera is an "optional" tool. Why is it so important a vane? # 1. You can check the depth of water you want to make a hole before drilling the hole! A camera can not do that. # 2. You can not check a thermocline with a camera. # 3. Although manufacturing company multiple cameras (Aqua Vista, etc) want you to believe you'll get crisp images in any condition, I have a camera and, unfortunately, that's not the case. A camera low cost in the range of $ 200 is practically useless in the colored water. Even if the water is clear most of them have to be very close to the lure / bait to actually see the fish strike! (Unless you can afford to purchase a premium level of $ 500 + camera with all the bells and whistles!) No However, a camera is a great tool when you want to know what species of fish is a tug on your line, (and it's fun to see.) Here's a good analogy: Think of a vane / Flasher as its "general" fish finder and a camera as your "zoom" feature.
