In a pager, what am I really seeing?
as the screen scrolls from right to left? It show what is directly below the boat as I move forward?, O is to show what the left or right? I have no idea which direction to cast!
What appears on the screen the right side is what is directly under the sensor at that time. Only moves to the left so you can see what happened (or what passed underneath you) a few seconds before. It keeps moving even after the boat stops. In general, the sensor is mounted so it is looking into the background. I think she looks down at approximately a cone of 5 degrees (like a flashlight beam) so just looking at a point of substance a few meters in diameter. What I normally do is use the locator to locate fish or structure, then stop the boat before various forms and pushed back into place. Or if you're in water deep enough, sonar can stop right at the top of the area and send your bait down there. There are side-scan available, but tend to be rather expensive.
