Is it safe to use flares in a shotgun?
I was in the canoe shop recently, and they were all 37-mm flare launchers. (See one of my earlier questions for a reference.) They did, however, 12 gauge signal flares, which seem to be the correct size to fit in a shotgun. Would it be any damage to the gun if I shot through one of these? It seems to be a useful thing to have in case of problems on a journey of hunting. The package is marked size 12, and "that, again about 2 inches long, maybe shorter. Do not worry, I was not even contemplating with shotgun rounds a flare. I was just thinking in terms of lighten my load when I go there. Should I recognize that the danger of forest fires had slipped my mind. I just I can plead temporary insanity, because my dog woke up too damn early in the morning.
If you are in such dire straits as to have used flares, then worry about damaging the barrel of his gun should be low on the list. Does the packaging have any information / warning about a shooting in shotgun? I bet you did. The site says they can be fired from a shotgun.
