Life Vests
- Regardless of the type or level of activity is performed, life jackets are an absolute necessity for any water sport activity.
- Life jackets are used like a normal jacket. Usually provide a closure or buckle closure system, with some jackets are often used both.
- Three types of flotation products are present for lifejacket: foam, inflatable, and hybrid.
- Foam – This is considered the most reliable by the USCG. Is designed for both swimmers and non-swimmers.
- Inflatable – Designed for swimmers only, floating inflatable products are the most compact of the three types.
- Hybrid – A selection trusted by the USCG, which is also designed for both swimmers and non swimmers.
Life Vests Type Definitions
Type I: Off-Shore PFD
- The best thing for open water, rough or remote areas where rescue may be slow in coming.
- Providing the best float.
- Turns most unconscious users face up in the water.
- Foam = 22 lbs. flotation.
- Easy access.
Type II: Near Floating Vest Coast
- Good for calm, inland waters, or when there is a good chance of fast rescue.
- Turns some unconscious users face up in the water. Is not as definitive as Type I PFD.
- Foam = 15.5 lbs. flotation.
- Inflatable = 33.5 lbs. flotation.
Type III: buoyancy aid
- In general, the most comfortable for continuous wear.
- Lightweight and comfortable.
- Good for calm, inland waters, or where there is a good chance of fast rescue.
- Available in various styles, including vests and flotation coats.
- Designed for the user can put himself in a supine position in the water.
Type IV: Throwable Device
- Can be thrown to someone in the water.
- Includes approved boat cushions, rings and horseshoes.
- May require equipment on some ships.
- Intended for calm, inland waters where rescue boat is always possible.
- Should be used in addition to vests Portable lifeguard.
Type V: The use of special devices
- Special applications or conditions.
- PFD label always specify what conditions and what kind of Type V PFD may be substituted to meet the transport requirements.
Higher importance is the need to test your PFD in shallow water or swimming pool secure. This will help ensure the proper fit and the PFD is in working condition.
Also, always take the necessary measures to inspect the condition of your equipment before engaging in any activity related to water sports. Finally, is very important to be sure there are enough life jackets on board his ship to accommodate all passengers.
