A General Look at Alchemy Part 1
Origin of Alchemy
Alchemy, according to esoteric writers, is said to be the invention of an ancient Egyptian sage called Hermes Trismegistus. The "Father of Alchemy" lived in an unknown period of Egyptian history, although it is believed that in some schools Rosicrucians who lived during the time of Moses and the Exodus of the Israelites. If true, be an initiate into the mysteries of Isis and Osiris, Moses must have been tutored by Hermes himself, which later allowed him to carry out its mission and realize your I AM presence symbolized by the burning bush. The various precepts and the Ten Commandments of the Lord of hosts revealed to the Israelites by Moses are the first steps of purification and putrefaction alchemy. Other measures were added more late to the Mosaic revelation by the Nazarene Master. In fact, Christ said he came not to abolish the previous revelation, but to fulfill it.
That some think "Hermes Trismegistus" constituted a title assumed by distinguished elders of the Mystery Schools, in a similar manner that Zoroaster, the founder the "Fire Religion" is regarded by some scholars. Of course, alchemy can also be considered a religion of fire, or at least a philosophy, by the symbology of fire related to the alchemical principles, its status in the art of transmutation, and with respect and honor paid to it by alchemists.
Jewish mystics identify Hermes as the antediluvian prophet Enoch, or Idris, as Muslims call it, while the ancient Egyptians see Hermes as Thoth, the god of wisdom, learning and writing. It was given this apotheosis along with Imhotep, the great architect under the reign of King Zoser of the Fourth Dynasty. It appears that Both men were overshadowed by the archetypal figure of Thoth, and were recognized as such by both the inner and outer circles of initiates of the Mystery Schools. Thoth, or his Greek counterpart, Mercury, was a messenger of the gods, and as an archetypal incarnation of this god, Hermes, at the height of his name by his literary fecundity. Ancient writers declared that the "Trice Greatest" wrote thousands of books on what later became known as Hermeticism and alchemy. It is unfortunate that very few of the works of Hermes survived the burning and destruction of libraries and books by Roman and Christian zeal in the dawning of the Age of Pisces. The world as a whole is still ignorant of the great loss, and that will take time before the invocation is made by the masses for the greater light to the disclosure of the eternal principles that shine upon the ways of men, and consequently, for a comprehensive restoration and establishment of a hidden library in the world, with an archive and database of all known systems and tradition of the metaphysics of life. Although little is known of Hermes, is evident through the works attributed to him an intermediary Wisdom of the Ray of the Supreme Being.
One of the most famous of the Hermetic doctrine written, and concisely, Tablet smaragdina is attributed to the authorship Hermes. Its discovery is traditionally believed to have been made by Alexander of Macedonia in a cave near Hebron. The conqueror of nations that had Aristotle a teacher, was in search of immortality. Although it failed to achieve its personal immortality, Alexander did discover a philosophical jewel that would have given what had searched if there was only applying the principles contained in the Emerald Tablet. Tradition relates that the Emerald Tablet was wrought artificial as a result of transmutation, with the Hermetic doctrine embossed on it.
Alchemy, as a philosophy and art in the Western Hemisphere in the past two millennia existed at the same time in other cultures and ancient civilizations – was practiced intensely by Hindu Yogis and Taoists, in India and China. This parallel growth is probably the result of a regular in the Great White Brotherhood, a spiritual method designed to develop certain types of temperaments and belief under applicants of a certain age and stage of collective evolution of humanity.
On the basis of this parallel growth of alchemy in the Middle and regions of the Fertile Crescent some historians think that the esoteric alchemy may have had a common origin in that sunken continent Atlan, or Atlantis, because it is more generally known. The esoteric tradition states that a handful of the Atlantean Root Race survived the sinking of the land and transmigrated to Egypt, China, and the Americas. It is reasonable to assume that they brought with them their sciences, art and culture, which influenced the indigenous inhabitants of the regions where they settled. This would explain the similarities in the traditions and beliefs of native cultures that are both East and West.
Principles of Alchemy are the principles that nature and works very well, alchemy, scientifically, there is on the inner planes long before they fell to the ground plane by master teachers. A study of the mysteries of nature are revealed to the students more demanding than the higher intelligences, the Elohim, and the Great Architect of the Universe alchemical principles used to precipitate star bodies of Chaos, cosmic root substance or "Sunyata," as Buddhists call. Kabbalists believe that Adam was taught by angels in paradise the art of transmutation, to prepare for the fall of their "" and his rise to his Monad, toward the Godhead – the involution and evolution of a divine consciousness to the Divine Self-Consciousness.
There is general agreement among scholars on the origin of the word "alchemy". The consensus is that the word derives from the word "Khem", the ancient name of Egypt, added the Arabic article "al", meaning "the", thus forming the word "Al-Khemy. However, Sir Wallis Budge is of the opinion that alchemy comes from the Egyptian word "khemein", ie the "black powder" or "mineral", which is presumed to be an ingredient in alchemy. No matter where it got its name, the word "alchemy" apparently came to light in the Mystery Schools of Alexandria.
Purpose of Alchemy
But what is alchemy, and what role play in promoting human welfare? If alchemy has no real value, must be based on eternal values, the things that support purposes Heaven, in other words, about God's plan for humanity to become the image of the divine truth Elohimic. If alchemy simply had an objective ground, authors intellectuals of the age have not been worried about him. It would have been regarded as something so trivial, so ephemeral as to distract the man from the real work of removing it same, specifically, his bondage to the carnal self, the Kama Manas, or the soul of animals and, in general, of samsara. Greed was never the impulse that led to the invention of alchemy. It was, is and will always be man's desire for Truth and enlightenment of his true nature and property that motivates him to search through all channels and means for unconsciously feel somewhat confident that he had "lost" and is its re-purchase – call "the lost word," the Sorcerer's Stone, or "Holy Grail", never mind. Alchemy man teaches the principles of regeneration and resurrection, the laws of creation and transmutation laws to help man regain his former estate lost in "the fall". This "fall" of Paradise symbolically represents involution wave of human life in physical matter. The way back to the Throne of God is scientifically called "evolution" and the acceleration of the latter is the art of the hermetic gnosis. This return path is esoteric and graphically symbolized by Jacob's Ladder, and the ways of the "Tree of Life Qaballistic."
The drama of Jesus' life is an alchemical allegory of the steps of regeneration and ascension to the I AM Presence within, the "Father who art in heaven. "Orthodox Christianity does not recognize or is unaware of this vital truth, and because of the lack of vision among most mystical members of its priesthood, along with the absence of esoteric truths in the doctrines and dogmas of the Church, the average Christian is ignorant and unaware of the true message of Christianity – De la Luz, the substance of Christ and the true saving blood that Christ brought to mankind. Esoteric Christianity is fundamentally a science of alchemy and religion, his was a master alchemist enacting – is taught in the halls of initiation of the Mystery Schools. It is related in the Gospels as the Master water into wine, multiplied the loaves and fishes, and walked on water – all of which were manifestations of the principles of alchemy, the Hermetic philosophy – or perhaps Once these events were all allegories convey some spiritual teaching.
Alchemy is defined as an art of transmutation and precipitation – the transformation of base metals into gold. The work of alchemical transmutation is designated as "the work of the Sun." This "Eye of Ra" symbolically represents the perfection with which Nature is gradually develops into his creations. On the physical level the Sun of Perfection is represented by gold. Alchemy is science and art which hasten the creations of nature to attain perfection in their own levels. Gold is reaching perfection by metals and minerals. Minerals, however, are also following another line of perfection – as their capacity to sustain life and consciousness. And Man, the acme of organic life, is evolving to the state in which it acquires perfection in Divine Self-awareness.
It can be summarized that alchemy is the art of increasing vibration of an object in order to accelerate their development or evolution towards a more or state. The result is perfection of the object of transmutation.
Transmission of Christianity Alchemy
Alexandria was the capital of Egypt, philosophical, and perhaps the entire civilized world in the early centuries of Christianity. Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, Alchemy and Hermeticism flowered abundantly, these philosophies are intrinsically related, and to fully understand real art, the student of alchemy with the advice of Master teachers to be familiar with their doctrines. Golden Age of Alexandria of occult philosophy did not last long, because the reptilian mind of the fallen angels had seized control of the new religion of Christianity, the increase (without offending our Christian brothers and sisters). The philosophical sons and daughters of Hermes were persecuted and murdered brutally by Christian fundamentalists and fanatics. The fear and hatred aroused among the masses and the expulsion of so-called pagan religions of the land followed. A sad event was the cruel assassination of Hypathia, an illustrious daughter of the Mysteries – the Widow Isis, and exponent of Neoplatonism. She just had a philosophy of equality in its day, and this caused the envy and jealousy of a priest who is the of his murder.
During the decline of the Empire Romano, the Secret Doctrine, or the ancient wisdom passed over to the custody of the Arabic and Persian mysticism. The principles of occult wisdom were later incorporated into the Muslim faith, with their higher aspects enacted in secret in the traditional oral form in certain sects, orders and mystical groups such as the Sufi orders and dervishes and among the Druze community in Lebanon and Syria.
In the 8th to the 11th century AD, in the era of the golden age of the culture of Islamic alchemy, speaks of the prominent names in the field of Real Art, like al-Farabi, Rhazes, Geber and Avicenna. These men studied the mystery teachings and occult wisdom of the schools Egyptian and Greek. They were most notably influenced by Hermetic, Alchemic and Neoplatonic ideas, and knowledge they acquired was synthesized with Islamic and Sufi doctrine. Sufi adepts produced one of the most beautiful symbols of spiritual development and progression of the rose. Its symbolism is comparable to the lotus flower, adopted by Hindu mystics.
The Knights Templar was an important link between East and West, between Islamic culture and the world of Christianity. The doctrine of alchemy was approved by the followers of these Sufi "Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, as it was originally called the Templars. Even the mythical Rosencruez Christian Rosicrucians are said to have acquired his occult knowledge from the Sufi masters and adepts in Arabia.
After the days of the dissolution of the the Order Templar by Philip the Fair of France, and the death sentence of the last Grand Master, Jacques de Molay in 1314, the surviving Knights sought refuge in various countries and in England some of them founded an Order of alchemy which was later known as the "Elder Brothers of the Rosy Cross." It is said that this order includes 33 members and that this group exists even to this very day our computer age.
When the believers of Allah, invaded and settled in the Peninsula Iberian, who brought with them the secret teachings. Schools had been established that mysticism, metaphysics, and alchemy in the curriculum. With the establishment of the various schools, the Ancient Wisdom, finally took root final on European soil, and gradually spread throughout the other regions of the continent. This expansion was undoubtedly the result of efforts by the spiritual hierarchy of this planet. The evolution of man is divided into certain steps, stages and cycles, and these "calendars" or programming associated with them. It is desirable that the flame of truth and freedom given to the custody of the Islamic world if it were about extinction of some of the evil spirits of Christendom in the Middle Ages that would have caused a setback for the Divine Plan already established.
The deviation the proper use of free will by Christian fundamentalists had made them unfit vessels for wine Christ. Despite the esoteric Christianity blind attacks on light or that gave rise, the esoteric circle continued its existence in hiding, preserving the secret teachings of Jesus and transmitted to a chosen few who had the vision of God's plan in their hearts and minds.
Idries Shah, the eminent Sufi of contemporary times, mentions in his book "Sufis," how an Englishman, one Robert of Chester, was instrumental in 1144 AD, in introducing alchemy to the Christian world by translating an alchemical manuscript originally written in Arabic. There were many others like him, for bearers of the flame were few.
Levels of Alchemy
Most of the principles of alchemy conveyed to the public, made up of images, mandalas, and jargon. These languages were dark, taking account of the time that alchemical science was struggling – struggling for recognition of the masses as a system of spiritual development in the midst of ecclesiastical persecution. The mentality of the masses of the Middle Ages were not much different at the time of Jesus. Ignorance, superstition and fear still ruled the day. The letter of the law, as propaganda by the Orthodox Christianity still disagreed, and in contradiction with the spirit of the law, as advanced by enlightened mystics. The Inquisition, which lasted centuries, showed how the Church had strayed from the original precepts of Christianity. Christ taught love, forgiveness, charity and kindness, the Fathers of the Church and Christian leaders only knew personal ambition with sadism, and egoism set-up on a pedestal of a saint. The "I" staff was worshiped, the "Yekhidah" or the Divine I AM, was forgotten.
Neophytes of the Mysteries were given the keys of interpretation of the Sacred literature when they were accepted in different secret brotherhoods. Candidates alchemical initiation were noticed by the owners when they had demonstrated its sincerity, and the sacrifices and efforts they had made. To the world at large, the existence of the Masters was unknown and unsuspected, despite its presence in the world of men was suggested in various alchemical manuscripts. It was only in the last century that Helena P. Blavatsky, among others, who brought their existence to the attention of the world, and even then, the world mocked and ridiculed the idea. This is an unreasonable, as people of diverse spiritual development and mental development can easily be seen and recognized. If some men and women are more perfect than others, why not men and women should be totally perfect from our human point of view?
Esoterically when a teacher gave a student alchemist alchemy the "Philosopher's Stone", which actually transmit the teachings of ancient wisdom, and a system yoga that when applied and practiced an initiate is transformed into a god.
In the public eye, alchemical icons and terminology conveyed no sense, but mystiqueness alchemical texts and images of interest aroused in the medical potential of Royal Art, and found that the average person in a search engine. This was perhaps one of the intentions of authors of alchemical manuscripts. Modern chemistry, feels a bit puzzled by the ideas of alchemy, in defiance of his father considered a pseudo-science, in the same way that astrology is generally frowned upon by students of astronomy. Modern research is changing the time opinions and beliefs in a negative-heeled materialistic science, and the pioneers of quantum physics are hypothesising what ancient wisdom has been teaching ages.
A key to understanding alchemy is to determine the objectives and theme of transmutation. Ignoring this principle, one would be lost in the desert alchemical. Alchemy is categorized into four levels:
1) Physical alchemy
Biological Alchemy 2)
3) The psychological alchemy
4) Transcendental alchemy

This really reminds me a little of The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho, that its not always about the physical turning of a metal into gold, but also a spiritual.
