Earth Simulator – StudentScholarships.org

On 11 March 2002, Japanese engineers have built a powerful team that can keep track of everything in the world at a time. Supervises tropical forests in Bolivia, factories in Mexico, the jet stream and Gulf Stream. The Earth Simulator was designed to create a virtual twin of our planet. Before they did this, the fastest computer in the world was a U.S. military machine that can perform 7.2 trillion calculations per second. The simulator runs in more than 35 trillion calculations per second. The Earth Simulator was built in Yokohama, and is the size of four tennis tennis. It is as powerful as the next twelve supercomputers in the world at large, and costs about $ 350 million. By connecting real-life climate data from satellites and ocean buoys in the Earth Simulator, researchers can create a computer model of the entire planet, then scroll forward in time to see what will happen to our environment. Scientists have already completed a forecast of global ocean temperatures for the next 50, and a full set of climate predictions.

Instead of speculating on the possible environmental impact impact, the Kyoto agreement, politicians will be able to connect their parameters within Virtual Earth, go ahead 1,000 years to get a handle on the effect of these policies may have. Such concrete data could environment "> revolutionize environmental science. Scientists feel, digital cloning of the Earth, there is a high possibility of saving it. The Simulator Earth is especially suitable for simulating complex systems linked. Climate is the model together with the flow of water on earth and ocean models. The issues of environmental change has become increasingly important over the last decade, where pollution has become a serious threat to the climate and the world we inhabit the Earth Simulator supercomputer consists of 640 that are connected by a high-speed network. Each team consists of eight super vector processors with a 8GFlops maximum performance and a high speed memory 16GBytes. The total number of processors is 5120, which translates into a total of about 40TFlops maximum performance, and the total main memory of 10 bytes of Terra.

Powers of the Earth Simulator computer to allow a capacity of mesh network 10 kilometers in Ecuador that allows scientists to model and simulate the clouds much smaller than previous supercomputer. This means that more accurate weather forecasts and the ability to predict trajectories of cyclones and typhoons. Within a few years, scientists expect that the advanced model of the Earth Simulator and simulation capabilities to bear fruit. Due to the new supercomputer, scientists also hope to find powerful new ways to deal with anomalous events such as El NiƱo, global warming and long-term changes in Earth's crust and interior.

I think this is the greatest invention the 21st century, because this will help solve problems in climate and make it easier to identify changes in the Earth. Scientists have tried to resolve these issues in the past. Now we have more information than ever before.
