Can I run boat pump in household?
I have a Jabsco Water Pump, Par-Max 3.0 31395-3000. the spec say, i need 12v and 5.2amp…Can i use an adapter like 12v 7.5amp or whatever that give 12v and 5.2amp? Or Can i plug directly in household plug?

well, I want to pump something else. the spec said 12v 5.2amp. can i give more amp? High voltage, the motor will burn. is high current burn too? i think the motor take what it need. ex: i give 16v with 8amp, does the motor take only 12v 5.2amp? or the “take what it’s need” apply only to current??
Cliff, the problem is i dont want to use a battery car. I guess i will end up buy a transfo that meet these spec. You said that the more volt or amp can get to overheat. But i thought a transfo give what a pump need, the more is better, is it? it’s like a PSU, i plug a fan, 12v .12amp, the fan doesnt overheat. … the transfo isnt like PSU?
you can certainly buy a transformer to give it proper power. or just connect to a 12 volt car battery with an inline 7.5 amp fuse.
excessive amperage and excessive voltage both produce the same problem. both will burn it up, possibly causing a major fire.
you may find that a AC pump costs less then the transformer does…..
basic electrical theory:
voltage is pressure.
amperage is current or rate of flow.
and resistance is obviously resistance.
E=I times R
voltage = amperage times resistance.
using that formula, i can tell you the resitance of your pump is 2.30 ohms.
12 volts = 5.2 amps times 2.30 ohms
knowing the resitance, i can take that 16 volts and divide it by 2.30 ohms of resistance and get 6.95 amps flowing under the increased electrical pressure of higher voltage.
