Chapter 1
The waters, the fleet and the marshes of the Blackwater estuary, which extends to the Easterly North Sea looked strange and unreal in the light of the morning. John Francis had known in the area since early childhood and now looked on with a mixture feelings of familiarity and excitement at the prospect of his return. He banked the Cessna to port stabilizes at a bearing of 30 degrees magnetic, just ahead could see the silhouette of the island of Osea, their final destination. There were only two miles now his goal. That would be an easy landing. A sharp decline, flaps, burning out just above the sea wall bordering the southern edge of small grass field.
It had been ten years since he had sailed the waters his wife Beth. Long, lonely years that have complained bitterly. They had met as students and were married in the spring of next year, 1975. Both were in late adolescence and perhaps a little too optimistic in their efforts. The summer of that year had been idyllic. They had rented living space in a sail loft in age near the river, and sailed regularly in the evenings and weekends throughout the season. Beth in August had fallen by his son, but as the summer Winter returned to the attic is no longer offered the paradise of comfort that had previously offered. Then, on Christmas week Beth had slipped on the steps of loft, fell ill and miscarried.
An angry obsessive mother had insisted that his daughter must return to the family home, and it was he just in a position to discuss, to realize that their prospects were at least not in existence. After they had somehow separated and he had refused divorce that followed. A commission of ten years of flying in the Royal Air Force had helped ease the profound feelings of loss and failure after the event. Having completed their flight training, was appointed to carry out commands. There was a time when I felt completely and securely with their situation, had tried to get Contact Beth, only to discover that the family had moved overseas.
His attention was drawn to a small light flashes on the island. This was the lighthouse landing as promised. He fuel mixture to rich, fully extended the flaps and started the descent to this point in the half light. This production would be one of many who had experience, but it remains difficult in these conditions. He remembered his instructor Harry saying "They are all easier when your feet are on the ground. "This advice had been very useful throughout his career.
Harry Tenant hache his friends were actually put through the mill during its in-flight training, for which he was eternally grateful. They have eradicated many of the mistakes and bad habits that young drivers can succumb to, and won him wealth of experience that he now had under his belt, so to speak. They had become friends inseparable over the years, and were always in favor of seeing each other when their paths crossed as they often did. In fact, his last meeting had produced in the city only a month earlier. "Hello friend!" I had always called chum. "Do not fly the desktop, then?" Hache continued "Probably no!" He replied. His involvement with the transport command ended after an ear infection he had landed in the paper for a while. He was offered the desk job, but decided to resign his commission and try their luck elsewhere. "I have just the thing for you "Hache said, handing him a small printing business card carefully." Cap know, outside of this island in the marshes of Essex. God knows what is doing there. Want a pilot! Urgent! Give it a start! You have to run! good luck! "And he was gone, lost in the rush of traveling at night.
The meeting with the staff at its offices in Holborn was brief, maybe a little too short. Upon inspection of your CV, documentation and records that had been commissioned to collect the Cessna representation and deliver it to the island in an allotted time, he also had two thousand pounds for costs and offered a salary monthly rather large, which quickly signed on the dotted line. The next two weeks had passed quickly, as they put their affairs in order, transferred their bank accounts and gathered the equipment and resources that this new effort would require.
His focus was almost complete, he descended to 200 feet and is clearly see the extension of the runway. The beacon is still flashing on the opposite end, and found that the dam was no more than 5-6 feet above field level. The waters of the river slid underneath it. The new engine drowned, in the column of control, and the Cessna crossed the border and settled gently but firmly dam in the meadow beyond. She glanced at the field as he rolled to a parking area which gave a great ship. He maneuvered the aircraft in this hard-standing and cut the engine. He sat in silence for a moment and then opened the door and went to the ground. He took four large travel bags from the rear of the aircraft and stood there surveying his surroundings. He was like a James Stuart, Beth No wonder so helpless Holden had fallen for him. He was tall and thin, with gray eyes and a generous smile.
"Mr. Francis? A large figure of a man had come to the field." Hello Sir, my name is Johnson. Governor has asked me to find him and accompany him to the house. I see you have lots of luggage. Please let me. "He lifted the heavy bags placed one under each arm, and one in each hand, like rag dolls. "This way please, sir!" It's just a short distance. " They walked along a narrow path that ran Parallel to the side of the ship and reached a small road running left and right. A golf cart through the park was the end of the route. "Sorry about transportation, better we can do I have fear. "" That's good! "he replied." I've had worse. "The bags were placed in the back and turned to right down the road that led toward the river, which then turned left and ran parallel to the front of a large country house, before turning left again to give access to the rear of the property. He had noticed the building during its approach. An elegant structure with a large attic and the two towers topped by pinnacles. "He used the back entrance Lord, the front is blocked by security. This place is for sale. I only have one month, only to this operation. "Having given the information that is wrapped round the bags again, like a crab carrying eggs and proceeded to enter the building through the back door, which gave access to a kitchen and a small dining room.
Three men sat at the table sharing the first meal of the day, while a fourth, moved silently around them attending to their needs. The largest of the three stood on entering the room, his hand in welcome. "Hello, I am Graham Spencer. For my sins, I am in charge of this set soon. Take a seat. "He nodded to Johnson." Take up your bags. I will mention to Mr. Francis to his room later. "" Yes sir! Immediately, "was the answer and went to meet the request. There is no doubt that this man commanded respect. He was tall and thin with dark hair combed back from his temples and a pencil thin mustache. "Let me introduce you. West and Tim Cox, David. "He said, referring to his two companions." Tim is the flight engineer, and David is going to install the camera and processing of photo-graphic aspects of things. "Both nodded and smiled in recognition. Tim Weston rose from the table." Please excuse for now, we have much to do if we want to be prepared time. "They parted, and went about their business. Graham Spencer looked at his watch." My God is that time? "He motioned to the guard home. "Seeing that Mr. Francis gets a good breakfast and then show your room, right?" Of course sir, breakfast coming up "said the man and took on the stove. His attention returned to his guest, "I'll see you back here for the launch, in 12.30. Do not feel at home and take a look around the grounds if you will, "and then he was gone. Moments later a huge plate of bacon and eggs appeared on the table and John Francis He realized he was ready to scrap all the same.
The day had been very complete. Your room on the top floor looked out through the river. The furniture and decor had seen better days, but it was enough and had spent an hour stowing your equipment and adjust had to admit that their situation gave him some concern. They had lunch together, and on the surface that had been quite friendly and was happy to be working on a new computer. After lunch, had attended a briefing at the barn. A capsule camera has been attached to the bottom of the Cessna. A monitor screen displays in the cockpit camera view, as well as navigation information for the operator. A small handheld unit allowed the control of the camera. We discuss the flight procedures and camera operations in great detail. The level of knowledge present at the meeting impressed him. It was late before returning to the house, and now he sat in his room by the window given the day's events. The project consisted of an aerial survey of the island and the surrounding area for the new owners. But why Why set up a team of specialists, when an aerial survey company could have completed the task at a fraction of the cost. He put the mater of his mind and went attention to the view from the window. A small sailing cutter was anchored some distance from the shore. The crew had been busy attending to the platform and sat in the cockpit is now enjoying a hot beverage. The scene brought a distant memory of happier times, and he sat quietly remembering for a while. When he looked again, the cutter was hoisted sails brown color, weighed anchor and was dancing on the small waves, their sails to the wind, direction open sea and the sea beyond.
Chapter 2
The boy was walking along the road that ran along the top of the Blackwater estuary, beyond the mud births that adorned the banks of the river and in the direction of Downs Road and the shipyard, which was his destination. The riverside town of Maldon in Essex had been his stomping ground now for the past three years. Most of her young life had been devoted to the Council's attention and had few memories of family and friends before that. Upon reaching the age of fifteen, Master Joe had offered him an apprenticeship in the yard. He had been accepted by men and given a sense of purpose and belonging. River life suit him, and he was outside most of the time on the Thames barges crew that put on the waterfront. These years had left him with a strong sense of craft and seamanship, and physical ability belied by his small stature.
He turned left and entered the courtyard. "The governor loves you," said the foreman Mac ", which is above the fold." "OK Mac, thanks," said him and climbed the wooden stairs two steps at once, and entered the office that was in the loft above the main workshop. "Until you reach the stairs so you will have the entire building with blood from the ears around me. "Master Joe sat at his desk, smiling, amused by the enthusiasm of youth." You and I are going Wivenhoe Easterly deliver tonight. She has been registered at Lloyd's so you have to work this issue in a single beam of the deck aft of the mast. Around two and a quarter inches high to do. Then pick the team and meet me back here this afternoon to catch the wave. Bring lots of clothing that gets you out a bit. "He gave a piece of paper containing the number and returned to their tasks. The boy ran down the stairs more slowly. What he meant," being away for a bit. "He shrugged, picked up a selection of small chisels and a mallet in his toolbox, and crossed the courtyard to the crowd.
Easterly sat down in his crib waiting for the return of the tide. She was a sea class 28 foot gaff cutter, built on the south coast in 1930. The hull was recovered Birth of a mud and towed downriver to the courtyard to be restored for its owner in the city. He sat there now complete in all its glory. Gloss varnish work, a court strake black, light gray superstructure and a dark red background against dirt. He saw a picture in the midday sun. He had participated in its reconstruction from the beginning, and had an intimate knowledge of each board, beam and fixing it.
"Hello!" A young woman had entered the courtyard, walked quietly into the crowd and was now at his side. She was dressed in brown paint-stained overalls dungaree. She was his equal in height and wore a happy face and bright blue eyes under a mop of curly blond hair. "Hello yourself!" He said. Patricia, or Pat, as she preferred be known, was the daughter of his mistress of the earth. They had become close friends, some have said, inseparable. The men in the yard noticed the mater. "What about the boy? I wish I had you move, the suspense is killing me. I had it all in good part, but he was not sure what was expected of him. "You're going to be away for a bit then? "." Yes! "Sorry," he replied, "I have myself heard." He looked at her. His eyes still smiling, but there was a slight tremor in her voice. "You take care then.'ll See you when you return." She turned and disappeared as quickly as he had arrived. He climbed the stairs, lent against the bulwarks of Easterly, stepped onto the deck, and was given their situation. His friendship meant much to him, and he was concerned that he should hurt her feelings in a way that does not yet understand. He walked aft, the deck came in the cabin and went below to complete your task.
Easterly anchor seat your Pyefleet Channel at the mouth of the River Colne, about four nautical miles from its destination. Had begun its journey around 17:00 pm and with the assistance of the tide receding, sailed the upper reaches of the river and to later, preceded Osea Island and open water beyond. This first trip was to be absorbed by the tasks necessary to ensure that properly prepared Easterly for the rigors that lay ahead of her. The new marine diesel engine propelled the little boat to a very satisfactory pace and is also supplied energy power required for navigational safety and comfort on board. Gone were the oil lamps that have served this purpose in the past and the past was also the small coke stove and heat have graced the main cabin. In its place was a modern heater fueled by diesel from the main tank. Joe was not sure who approved the changes, but had to admit to the comfort, space and comfort it gives.
He stopped and made their way outside bar Osea Island beach to make a tea of tea, do a final check of the rigging and rigging of land, before all plain sail and a proceeding under warm south west towards the open sea breeze. The conditions were ideal. Easterly set a great pace, taking a small sea side with ease and leaving a trail smooth straight in its path. This was what had been designed to do. I was well prepared for their task and in his element. The boy was grinning from ear to ear, and Joe had to admit a deep sense of satisfaction in work well done. They hugged the southern bank of the river where the water was deeper and let their heads Easterly
Mrs M had prepared a stew of meat and dumpling and now it was bubbling on the stove in the kitchen of Easterly. The boy lying in the cabin Sat main accused high expectation for the feast to come. Things did not get any better than this. They had arrived in the channel around sunset and had watched the boat and washed and straightened in preparation for dinner. That final approval in the soft light and mild heat conditions had been excellent and had been felt relaxed and smooth, no doubt helped by the Navy rum cup on the table beside him. Joe left the kitchen with two large bowls of steaming stew. "A very comfortable there?" "Yes, Joe! "" You'll be doing the washing then? "" Yes, Joe! "He smiled and put the dishes in your assigned seat at the table, sat down and seated at dinner with great enthusiasm. The boy smiled back and did the same.
Easterly pulled gently on her anchor cable as she rode the swell gently into the canal from the sea in the background. The breeze had died and the surrounding banks were shrouded in a light mist. There was a chill in the air and the two men sitting in the bathtub of Easterly found comfort in their cups of steaming coffee. The remains of the food had been cleaned and all items stowed for the night. The free light to emit a gentle beam through the deck and the surrounding area, as if on stage. The boy got up, stretched long and hard and nodded. "That's me for some shut-eye, night Joe!" The others nodded back. "Just before going, we will meet one morning Miss Bethany Holden. She is the new owner. I want to stay with her for a few days and teach the rudiments of management Easterly. "The boy smiled," So that's what all the secrecy was about time. "" Yes, I want you to stay on board. Move your computer to look forward and leave her the main cabin. She will stay on the ground at night of course. Anyway that's for another day. Just wanted to know. I'll finish this coffee. and I will not be far behind you. "The boy nodded again, to enter the hatch and stepped forward, leaving the old man to enjoy the last remnants of the day. Teacher Joseph sat in the silence of the night, a man very happy.
Life had not always been so kind. The war years had taken their toll. As a child of four who had been evacuated from the city and security of home life in the then strange but friendly world of the masters of the home, a family involved in the Jewish garment of knights, in the county town of Ipswich, Suffolk. There as a child his interest in the sea had flourished with the near the river and that of many commercial and private vessels were there. In the winter of 1944 the tragic news of his house had been left destitute to very young age. In recent years he had taken the name of the family but not himself the faith of the disaster. After completing his education at a competent level, who had entered the Royal Navy as an apprentice carpenter. Rowing, sailing and maintaining the Navy Whaler dinghies and other small, were of the powers that would be so essential to their future career. It was during a vacation in cycling around East Anglia, he discovered the joys of the market town of Maldon and was introduced to his wife-to-be Margaret, now affectionately known to all as Mrs M. Meeting Margaret had been the catalyst for his life. Leaving the Navy had moved to the city and create a repair shop and boat builder. There was a great demand for their services, which has allowed the company to expand and move to current premises road on the plains. He and Margaret were married shortly after this event and settled in the city, and the rest as they say is history.
He left Security cabin and came forward to make a final check of the boat before turning in. When he went onto the foredeck something caught her attention in the dark. A small wave traveling along the canal from the sea. It was not part of the wave that was gone now, but seamed to move independently her, as if some big fish makes its way upstream. Passed him and disappeared into the mist. A period of silence, maybe a couple of minutes before he was aware of the sound of diesel engines starting and greater shadow on the fog that had not drawn attention before, gradually withdrew and was lost at sea at night. No lights were visible and the engines were off and running slowly. Puzzled by the strange event, finished his inspection, he returned to the cabin the pilot and took a step forward in the warmth and safety of the cabin. He changed his clothes at night, he slipped between the sheets and fell asleep almost before head on the pillow. Tomorrow is another day.
Chapter 3
Beth Holden entered into Liverpool Station the street from the taxi stand and took the train to the East Coast. Would have to change in Colchester and then travel for local service to its final destination, the small Essex Wivenhoe town situated on the banks of the River Colne. This would be a new beginning, a new chapter in his life. The recovery of her failed marriage had been slow to principle. The move to France with his mother had provided a distraction from the immediate situation. However, followed a year of abject boredom, punctuated by various social representation, for, in your best interest to offer prospects. Inevitably, the call of home became too strong and she had paragraph, in the midst of a sea of tears, to a new life in the city of London and the prospects of his own creation. He had been offered the post of assistant in a law lawyers in Lincoln's Inn, and over the years had progressed to the position of junior partner. Life was rewarding. She was financially secure, and fulfilled, both in life professional and private.
Moreen Connelly, had joined the company in the same day she and an immediate bond was established between them. They had shared closing a small plane, to the office during the intervening years, and became known to every one of the twins. Living with Moreen had been a blessing. It was a bright light and spread their enthusiasm for life to all around him, and therefore, at its expense, he had regained his sense of joy and wellbeing. And he had. A friendship that has lasted over the years. There was the odd romantic interlude for two, but nothing had really rocked the boat, so to speak. Y Moreen then there is an attachment to John Kemp. At first it was just a casual acquaintance, but as the months passed, it became clear to her that both were deeply love each other
"Love you Beth!" "I love you too. Be happy!" and a sea of tears again as the car away, leading to the couple in starting their new life together. Everything had happened so quickly, leaving very little time to accept the inevitable. The apartment felt empty and became a lonely place to sleep. She had taken to go on the weekends, which were the worst. It was during one such trip that he had come through hull gaff cutter located at a square of mud at the bottom of the sea in Wivenhoe water front. The announcement tied to the mast had read "for sale any offers considered ". There was a number she called, and within a couple of hours was the new owner. It was a completely crazy thing to do, but I needed a distraction, something to fight loneliness cooling in which it had seized. "She is as solid as a rock," said the little man from monkeys. "I the need to disappear soon, however, the development of the site you see. There is an upper yard in Maldon that will shape up for you. Give em a ring okay? " And so, he returned to town this weekend yachtsman dubious status and hired a yard owner had yet to meet. In As for the cost of all this, so it was anybodies guess.
That had been over a year ago. She had recovered from the shock of losing her friend and confidant, and his life was more or less back on track then a senior official had become available in the Colchester business office. She had been recommended for the post and had accepted with gratitude, because they offer the possibility of a new beginning. The restoration of the mill is almost complete. There have been several visits to the shipyards in this period and many letters they had exchanged hands on the details of the reconstruction. Joseph Masters had set his mind at rest and assured him that the project was sound, and has quoted a price that is fair and within your budget. And so it was that Easterly had been reborn and was almost ready for delivery.
She left the train at Colchester and settled on a bench waiting for your connection. The sun and the air was fresh and crisp in his face. A feeling of confidence and pleasure in it moved as contemplated her new beginnings. Wivenhoe had been a natural choice as a basis. He had gone regularly to the town and felt safe and at home there. A small house had come on the market for Dentons Terrace, not far from the shops and river. He had put in an offer which was accepted. Thus the stage was established, and she could hardly contain his excitement at the thought of the prospects that lay before her. There was still the problem of finding a suitable position for Easterly. She was due for delivery in about a week. Not much, but lived in hope. The company had given a month to settle, before they had to assume his new post and was sure she would need every minute of it.
The local service had arrived and she boarded and settled into a window seat, anxious not to miss his first glimpse of the sea and surrounding countryside, which was to be their new home. "Hello Miss!" She was surprised by the voice that had come from the other side of the car. At first I could not place the speaker. Then it occurred. It was the little man in monkeys, except that he was now a sports jacket and gray pants. "You've been in business in the city" offered the explanation, then continued: "The name of Robert. Robert Prentice, but my friends call me Bob ". I was not sure he welcomed the intrusion, but smiled back." Bethany Holden, hello! good to be back to see you. "" How is progressing yacht "he asked." She is almost finished. Due to launch next week. "" Do a good job of it, right? "Yes, I am very satisfied with the work and the price was reasonable too. I'll call her Easterly." "Good name of "He smiled in the car and began to feel more comfortable in his presence." He paused in thought for a moment and then asked, "You do not know where there is a berth for her, right? "It has just the thing," he replied. "I bought the lease that piece of beach year past. The wife and I needed a little extra money for our retirement. Could fit in there. "" Thank you "he replied." You have no idea what a relief it was for me. "The conversation lapsed for a time as their attention was drawn by the view from the window. The river was in all its glory at his right hand, wending its way through the Essex countryside and flashed in the sunlight. The beauty of it took her breath away. "Nice, huh?" His voice interrupted his thoughts. "Yes it is very pretty," she said. "You get to me all the time, and I 'only lived here all year I, "he continued. She laughed, realizing as he did, how the absence of the sound had been his life. completed the trip silent, satisfied with their own thoughts. At the station said goodbye to each other as friends. She walk the short distance to the terrace of houses, turned the key in the lock and was home.
Chapter 4
Easterly sit at anchor in the shallow waters off Mersea Stone. The boy Sat relaxed in the cockpit, while Beth Holden then discussed the preparation of their lunch. The day was bright and had been monitoring the ship several small sailing through the strait of water that lay before him. A big motor yacht was anchored some distance from them inshore. It is strange fashion to him that nobody was on the cover in a day so enjoyable. I was just there, as if deserted, however, had seen anyone leave the vessel. He looked for a while and then turned his attention to his current situation. I was glad to have a nice navigation companion, and had begun to realize that the next few days would be a pleasure, instead of the hard work that he had expected. Easterly She had taken like a fish in water, and he had had the pleasure to help in any way he could.
The previous morning, had left very early Pyefleet, eager to catch the last of the tide by river. His arrival had coincided with a good depth of water to allow the safe delivery of the vessel at its berth at the coast. After breakfast, Joe packed his gear ready to go ashore. Margaret will be meeting with the car for the trip back to Maldon. Meanwhile he had to call the owner and deliver the documentation final reconstruction. "Now you behave yourself, remember the girl in the city." "Yes, Joe! "At that very moment! I'll let things take care here, "and was gone. The boy was not quite sure that he welcomed this intrusion into their daily routine, but he seamed had little choice in the mater. He was beginning to feel uneasy, when a voice called from the river bank. "Hello! Easterly! Permission to come aboard?" He was young, probably about twenty years later. His figure was thin and suburban shown to perfection by a short-sleeved white blouse and tight jeans. A shock of hair brown framed her face, which were warm and generous, with eyes to die for. All this and more, it became clear to him, as he went down the bank and leaned closer. Her heart sank. She was not at all what I expected.
"A penny for them!" She had returned to the cabin assumption bowls of steaming soup and a plate of snacks. "No, I think it should keep us going until tea time," smiled in response, and the two stuck on the Rate lay before them. After a while he asked: "What do you call? We can not be friends of you know, unless we have the names." He thought for a moment. It had never occurred before. He had always been called the kid, but he liked the idea. "I know," he continued, "what about Jamie? "Thought for a moment and then said" yes, why not, Jamie suits me fine. "She smiled," Hi Jamie! "" Hi Beth! "He said, and settled with the rest of his lunch, happy with his solution to the problem.
The horizon over the Thames Estuary had become dark and threatening. He had passed without noticing. A rising wind from the northeast and there was a definite cooling in the air. "We were best way to move, do not want to be stuck here on that. "He gestured toward the storm blackening always coming down on them. We're going to get water under the keel. "So saying, he began to manipulate the storm jib and sailing to treat." They look very small? "Dare." Wait until the wind increases, that's all I need she''ll. I will shorten the anchor cable. When I give the signal, to sail her right? "Yes, of course," she said, made charge of the tiller in preparation. He went on to retrieve the anchor. When he had reduced the scope of the cable enough, stirred hand. Beth hardened leaves tiller and relieved of guardrail in the neighborhood. Easterly responded by increased wind-driven funds, and then turned and walked away from the coast in deep waters beyond, raising the anchor free of the seabed while doing so. He completed his task and said that in his home on the foredeck. He had just returned to the accompanying in the cockpit when hit at full volume. Easterly heel to the attack, the stabilized then marched resolutely through the short seas which had been lifted by the strong wind. With the wind came the rain, frost, torrents of it. Took his breath. It lasted two or three minutes more before continuing. There has been little time to prepare, and both were drenched and extremely cold. He started the motor and headed inshore channel Pyefleet. It was the closest point to offer any shelter and knew they needed to recover their body heat as soon as possible. Upon arrival, the boat anchored and secured, and went below to recover.
Easterly cabin offered little consolation to the top. The main hatch had been partially opened and a considerable amount of water had found its way below decks. He started the heater and set about pumping the bilges. He realized that he was Beth shivering uncontrollably with cold. She seemed almost blue and it was obvious that she was unable to fend for itself. He realized that he must get warm as soon as possible. She looked at him in despair. "Jamie, please do it for me. Its fine, really! "His voice was a whisper. He sat on the edge of the bunk and went softly to assist your needs aa.
They sat facing each other, wrapped in blankets. Heater has done its job, and the cabin was habitable again. His background color in her cheeks again. "I'll get a mess?" "You look fine to me," he replied. "What Sorry! Have I embarrassed you? "He asked." Well, a little, "he said. "You are so beautiful." She blushed and lowered her eyes view. "Oh Jamie, I can not remember the last time someone said that to me." He reached out, took her hand and pulled him toward her. His mouth was soft and warm weather and sought his. He leaned back on the bed, opened her thighs and she accepted it, pushing it forward in their desperate search for completion. His desire of each other with stitching insatiable, but was rewarded with time, and was in the arms of another, lost to the world at rest.
He had been awake for a while laying there, watching her sleep, her breasts awareness and fall gently to the rhythm of your breathing. I was completely mesmerized by it. Never could have imagined a meeting of some like it, and to be as close as this was beyond their wildest dreams. She moved, "Hi!" His voice was low and lyrical. Their eyes met, and only then time stopped. They were in another world and did not want the spell to be broken. They consummated the relationship again, gently, lovingly, deeply, and then slept on the content at the time and with others.
Chapter 5
The Cessna was above the storm, after rising to avoid it. Juan Francisco and Tim West watched the scene from his elevated viewpoint. Could see the small Yacht clawing their way into deeper water, and then all was removed from his sight. "I hope you are well." "Yeah me too" John Francis had experienced similar conditions in the past and did not make comments lightly. He thought he had recognized the boat as it was a strong resemblance to the strawberry which had been anchored the night before, but was not sure. They turned their attention to the job in hand. This was his first day at work together as a team and they got along very well. This flight was mainly for calibration of the instruments and camera. The weather had delayed a bit, but the horizon was showing clear signs of conditions to come.
He was not sure of the exact purpose of his mission. His job was to fly the aircraft accurately. Tim had control of the camera and directed the operation. Until now, most of their time was spent in the estuary away from their intended location. He mental note to mention this at the next meeting. "There they are. We'll take the camera in a minute. "Tim had rediscovered the yacht. She was going inshore now seeking shelter near the ground. "Must see, look." Adjusted the zoom and the yacht appeared on the screen, a small but very distinct. It was just an image on a monitor screen, but Juan Francisco something moved inside him, and instinctively knew the identity of the girl in the cabin. It was completely illogical that the feeling must be so strong, and yet he was there. The image of the yacht had disappeared from sight and the spell was broken. They completed an hour its assigned task of flying in several groups and verification of the accuracy of the equipment. Finally Tim nodded, satisfied with the results. head "Very good! That should do. Consider the situation, it could kill for a cup of tea. "It was a great man of tea and welded to consume gallons of the stuff." Yes! By all means, let's do just that. I could do with a single tranche. "He answered and headed to the back of your journey.
Night was falling. Them had finished their tea break, when Johnson was asked was to attend a meeting with the Governor. He had addressed one of the rooms located on the ground floor in the front of the building, which was being used as a temporary office. Graham Spencer sat on a large desk near the window, the classification through a stack of papers. He looked up as he entered. "Hi John! Do take a seat. I'll be with you in a minute." He gestured to a large arm-chair by the counter. Juan Francisco sat, grateful for the comfort they offer. His attention was drawn to the window tried to remember this same point of view when the cutter was anchored there before, but he remained positive that there were two male figures and some not. "Are you okay? Looking a bit worried. "Graham Spencer had completed its deliberations and watched him carefully." I'm fine. "He replied, "Only a little or nothing." "Well! Let us then. He took a big folder of the desktop." I must confess to you that we have done extensive research with respect to its past. I am pleased to say that you have a health certificate to that effect, and now I am able to explain the true purpose of this for you. I'm sure you must have been thinking. "He wheeled his chair to face the window and looked toward the point of view, lost in thought. Then without waiting for a statement he continued. "It has come to our attention that some sensitive materials are being bought to this country by a foreign power. I am free to say that if they were used for intended purposes, the results would be catastrophic. "He paused for a moment, then returned into position at the desk and took a long look in the eyes of the public. "Look John, these people are bloody dangerous. Let me be clear about this, before committing further. My team are all from the MET Special Operations Section. We're used to it, is part of our work. You is rated as one of us by association, and should push come to shove they will not give any special dispensation. It's a dog eat dog in this business I have fear. "The provided in the chair and relaxed, having delivered his message. He was interested in getting a positive response, but years of experience guided his hand in the Mater, and could only hope that his initial impression that the young man sitting before him was sound.
So there it was, the truth at last. A bit late, but better late then never, he thought. In considering his previous occupation had not ceased to have its dangers. You had to be constantly aware of them, as complacency could lead to serious consequences. The question was, should he become a more active part in this particular situation. I was tempted to seize the opportunity offered to him and remove there. However, his curiosity was aroused, and he had to admit that the claim nature of the exercise had provided an outlet for his natural talent as an aviator. Something had been missing since his retirement from his previous career. He was part of a new computer, and realized complete satisfaction in this regard. He had been the pattern of his life over the last ten years, and it was good to be back. Without further consideration, said their commitment to the project, and the two shook hands. "It's good to have on board." Graham Spencer was happy and relieved. "Let's have a drink at him. Whisky? "Two glasses and a bottle had appeared on the table." I like a drink now and when small. Double malt! Hope you like! "
They sat together for a while longer, discussing various aspects of the operation. Some had spent considerable time on the ground in a fruitless search, using conventional methods, but so far had drawn a blank. There is no doubt that the materials were carried by sea. Several ships had been approached and sought, but has proven to be clean. The weather was essential and had decided to establish a base on the island and carry out an aerial survey in a last attempt to penetrate the cloak of secrecy surrounding the issue. The intention was to focus on cracks and many small coves that are in the area. These were less obvious, and yet offers extensive opportunities for underground hackers to come and go without being seen. This task was to begin at dawn the next day, and promised to be careful, both in amplitude and detail.
David Cox had entered the room while they had been talking. "There's something here that I thought you should immediately Governor "He placed a large photo image on the table before them." This is one of today's' of the survey. We have a situation interesting here, just at the entrance to the Canal Pyfleet. "He pointed to the area of interest, and after closer inspection revealed that there was a pattern unusual visible at the bottom of the sea. There seems to be two parallel tracks, which extends from the end of the sea in the channel, and ending in the shallow waters at the source. They were very feint disappearing from time to time, whether it is buried, only to reappear a short distance beyond. "Note also the large motor yacht anchored offshore," continued. "This may just be a coincidence, but I have the suspicion that the two traits are somehow connected." "Yes I have done," Graham Spencer pushed his finger image. There was a flash of steel in his eyes. "Gentlemen, I believe that we, at last," he said.
There has been much speculation as they sat talking after dinner. Graham Spencer had stayed in the office, and the phone had been busy for several hours. He had sent a message at the end inviting them to join him. The atmosphere in the room was tense. The meeting was brief and to the point. A police presence had been established in the area to monitor movements overnight. Until a transfer of materials suspected, things are kept under lock and key. The coastguard had been alerted and will deploy a vessel if required. A group of Special Police Forces had mounted to arrest the head of the main body. They had to arrive early the next morning. In the event, the Cessna would be deployed to monitor the situation from the air, and the direction of feeding ground operation by radio. The meeting ended, retreated in early preparation for the events of the new day comes, but if the dream would come easily questionable. Probably not!
Chapter 6
Patricia Hodge dropped the mooring buoy, hardened the sheets, and put the pot on the road, leaving the anchorage at Bahia San Lorenzo quickly astern of her. Ahead I could see the silhouette of the Central, set against a dark sky emaciated. She had taken the precaution of putting candles storm, in preparation for the storm approached. His bearing was fitted to the feet of the front stay aligned with the tip of the jetty Bradwell, and held constant, with the certainty that he would get safe passage to their intended destination.
'Pup' was a GP-14 light machine drive, not the fastest, but solid and reliable, very good and a sea boat. There were not many places in this stretch of water that had not visited it, and over the years had become a very good sailor. She had helped his brother David to build the boat while still in school, and the two had many an adventure as a whole. Then David had joined the Navy as a cadet, and she was as officer in charge so to speak. One last hug for a while at least. "Take care of Mom! I guess you're the captain now!" and he was gone, excited about the prospects of his new career. They had both missed terribly. His father had left when she was only a child, and the three of them Mom, David and herself, had survived the storms of life together ever since. On leaving school, a short-term employment as an office junior, had convinced that there were better things to do in this life. She had put the working man's dress and casual labor found among shipyards and ships has been configured the commercial life of the water front of Maldon. His natural ability to address successfully the various tasks presented, and his cheerful disposition, had been supported by working people and their services were always in demand. A little paint here, or a trip to the top of the mast to fix an errant piece of aloft. Everything was within their daily routine.
The wind had increased in strength and support for the North-East. Center board lifted until the tip was holding water, and went in on starboard tack, sailing across the face of the storm as a surfer rides a wave. His entire width of the river at this point and put away of the dangers of shallow water away from it. The rain was pouring down, cold ice, reducing visibility and taking breath. Kitty jumps on waves at high speed, and the opposite shore line on it soon, which caused a new change of direction. The wind was now free and hand the port. He moved the boat in a broad scope, which ultimately lead to the beach Bradwell coat. Although well prepared, had continued the rain cooled it passes, and his goal was to rest for a while, and replenish their bodily resources.
And all this, just for that silly boy, he thought. Life had been no complications so far. She had was confident and able to take care of itself. Mom had said she was too independent, and yet the family life and daily routine has provided ample opportunity socialize and had been happy and contented in this regard. The boy had changed all that, and she was not sure she welcomed the intrusion in his inner sanctum. He had come to his house as a guest, and had taken to him immediately. David had just left the Navy, and was good to have the company, as the house felt very empty. At first they were only friends, but so similar. They spoke the same language, thought the same thoughts. It was strange. They shared the same love of the river, and found deep satisfaction in each others company. Then slowly, without realizing their reality, something deep inside it had moved. A desire, beyond all this, and challenged her every day to seek completion. His body had changed, she knew, and my mom had guided the management of this. That was the easy part. It was his feelings for the boy who found it so challenging. He had been outside his rebirth as a woman, the choice to live in a world of its own fined for its ships and river. And now she was on this stupid mission, browsing what God knows where, in a desperate attempt not to feel rejected. If honest, all matter was going crazy.
The sun had left behind the retreating clouds, and their status mood changed, soothed by the warmth of its rays. The wind died to a fair breeze, escorting his small boat to its final step in the shelter of the breakwater to Bradwell input crunch. The boat was anchored near the shore, where the best shelter was, and got his thermos-flask and sandwiches for the safety of the box office, established on the foredeck. Hot soup of his replacement, body and soul, followed by beef and mom and chutney sandwiches, and she landed on the planks of the boat bottom Assistant, for the moment, content, and at peace with the world. How long had he been there, I was not sure, but reached first, the realization of that time was essential if I wanted to reach their destination before nightfall. She had planned to put in place to spend the night at the Canal Pyfleet. Was protected and safe and often had enjoyed peace and tranquility offered in the past. She completed its preparations and has already made his exit. The wind and weather is set fair, but had a tough six candles miles ahead of her, before reaching the entrance of the Colne estuary, and land expected. The incoming tide would against him before and it was essential she must win the shallow waters of the Mersea Flats, before he was able to hindered their progress. The flats bordering the south coast of the island of Mersea, and spread to Mersea Stone, located at the eastern end is. Kitty had the bit between his teeth, and it was really over steam, and got his way, in record time. The movement in the shallow waters drown and was now outside the main tidal current, and capable of making smooth progress. She knew the area like the palm of your hand. There is no room to take a larger vessel, but a boat on a rising tide presented little problem.
It was 16:30 as she rounded the point at Mersea Stone. There been an exhilarating sail. The wind had served her well, and though tired, he felt mentally refreshed and optimistic. More like his old self. He called the forwards wind in a boat failing, and finally entered the canal. Her heart sank. Easterly anchored near the coast a short distance ahead of her. She could not believe his luck. There was finally no place to run. Her heart was pounding with excitement at the prospect of imminent satisfaction desire within. She bought the boat next door, and quietly climbed aboard. She opened the hatch and peered inside. It was a time before his eyes became accustomed to the darkness, then let out a sob, as their world collapsed around him.
