10 hp johnson overheated?
i noticed durring a barrel test that the water pump had failed but i fear it was too late! after changing the impeller it started for a couple seconds and had a severe vibration then wouldnt start again
Compression test will tell. You’ll probably find significantly lower PSI in one cylinder than the other. Pull the head for visual inspection. With any luck, all you’ll need is a head gasket. Cylinder head removal & reinstall is pretty basic stuff on these motors, just be sure to resurface the head, use the proper gasket and gasket sealer (if called for in your manual), and torque it to spec.
In fact, with the vibration and non-starting, I wouldn’t risk any further damage by compression testing — I’d just go ahead and open her up.
any piston damage, broke rings or scored cylinders means rebuild or replace the powerhead.
