If it refers to communication by Morse code, the response is not. While radio, telex communication is also telegraphy, I suspect that this is not what you mean. Morse code has been dying for some time, with its steepest decline comes after the IMO, the need to interrupt the Radio Officers on board commercial vessels, provided they were equipped with computer INMARSAT and sufficient redundancy (ie, spare) radio equipment for the need of an engineer dedicated to keeping superfluous to requirements. I remember the decision (it was in 1989) as it had only 2 months before qualifying as a radio officer. British Telecom (the leading provider of coastal radio stations in the United Kingdom) closed their 500KHz (MF R / T emergency frequency) hearing on 1 January 1998, instead providing a continuous listening watch on HF and VHF (CH16 and 2182KHz emergency frequencies, respectively). It closed its commercial radio stations coast in an operation in stages from June 1999.
