how do i position my marine tank pump?
outside the water creating air being forced into the tank on just inside the water creating water movement?
I take it that your filter is a sumbersible or the return from a canister rather than a hang-on.
You want to position it so that the water ripples at the surface, but so that air bubbles aren’t formed. Any bubbles that are made and flow along with the water can get trapped under rocks, killing the bacteria and other organisms (sponges, tunicates, tube worms, corals) that may also be living on the rock.
Most of the oxygen that’s dissolved into the water (what you want) happens at the water’s surface, the filter/powerheads are just used to circulate the top water throughout the tank.
Only very tiny air bubbles (such as those produced by a protein skimmer or venturi on a filter) make a significant difference in adding to the dissolved oxygen.
