What do I need filtration methods for aqaurium of 55 gallons of salt water? Do you need a power filter and protein skimmer
I am planning to buy a 55 gallon tank for saltwater marine fish. There will be a reef tank. I was planning to get a kit (which comes with a filter power). Probably Wal-Mart. Will I have to buy a protein skimmer or filter feeding also be enough? (the filter of energy qualifies for the size aquarium, but I worry that a poor quality kit) have told me to> 50 gallon tanks, a filter of willpower is not enough. I've been told I need a filter of protein too, and maybe an air pump and airstones. I do not want to create a sump pump below the tank or get a cartridge filter. I heard that undergravel filtration is not so great, but I'm sure. If I have a smaller tank (<50) will be able to filter without suffiecent a skimmer protein? Thank you. There's actually 2 things to consider with salt water. The filtration and circulation water. Salt water must be kept moving at all times. Rule of thumb for fish is only 10 + times the circulation of water per hour. So you need a minimum 500gall and pump system hour. Of course, you can split this between a turnover and internal header filter / s. You can not really ever have too much or traffic filtering. Why Why not filter the bottle? I had to reef aquariums sinks / skimmers for many years and, like many of my colleagues, I have returned to a filtration system closed (bottle). In the filter tank is not enough and hang-ons are ugly. Get a good bottle – no salt creep or noise. Skimmer – does not need one to fish. That film / scum that develops on top of salt water tanks and smells of the protein is not fat at all, the bacteria that eats free (latent) filament protein. It is not harmful to fish. Get a head of internal power and point to the surface for its well-stirred. This breaks any dirt and bacteria inactive starve anyway (not the good bacteria). So what happens to the United Nations all skim milk protein and other undesirables? Answer is simple: purigen an envelope on the filter / canister will remove anything that a skimmer can – and much more. Regardless, you need some very good live rock. Good "cured" LR will handle the vast majority of the leak anyway, as long as youi have adequate circulation of water so that it do the work. Airstones n inside a tank of salt. Air in the salt water creates bubbles are much finer than in fresh water and if they are micro-bubbles that are detrimental to creatures including marine fish gills. Good luck and 50gall is a good size to start with. ps keep in mind that almost everyone who begins with a single tank of fish, inevitably, begins to experiment with corals and easily reversed at some point.
