Rules of the Road … Who has the right of way?
When two sailboats meet three rules to follow:
1. The ship on the tack to port gives way to the boat the starboard bow. 2. When the same tack, the windward boat gives way to the leeward boat. 3. The overtaking vessel to keep clear of the ship more slow.

Racing-Deviation and Variation
There two types of Poles, the Poles the geographic North and South, also known as True North and True South Magnetic North and South Poles. The geographic poles are fixed. The earth is a big magnet with lines of magnetic force running from the north magnetic pole to the south magnetic pole. The magnetic pole is located in northern Canada, just west of the geographic pole. It changes location for long periods of time.
Variation is the angle between magnetic north and true north. This is indicated by a compass when it is free of any magnetic influence near. A magnetized pointer, or needle, which is allowed to rotate freely, point to the magnetic north pole. On a boat compass, the needle is in the middle of a ring that shows 360 degrees. Now matter which way the boat heads the compass points to magnetic north.
Deviation
Boats with a lot of metal have their own magnetic fields and the compass can respond to it and went a little away from the direction of magnetic north. When this happens, it is called compass deviation and must be compensated. This can be done by installing small magnets inside the compass, or, you can make a map of the diversion for your boat and refer to it when find out what course to follow his compass. This applies especially to the small boat sailor will not be using a compass mounted with magnets.
Variation
They often give you a way forward from one place to another in real addresses. This means you will have to convert it to run this course magnetic compass. There is a very consistent and easy rule to follow when going from true to magnetic. In the U.S. and eastern Canada, to go from a true course of a magnetic field add a variant west. To move from one field to a magnetic course of truth, you subtract a variant west. In the U.S. and western Canada, to go from a true course of a magnetic field is subtracted from a variation of this to happen on a magnetic heading to true course, add a variation of this.
Sailing Conditions

AIDS navigation markers-Established on land or sea helps mariners avoid danger and fix its position.
Bearing-The direction of an object to an observer, like a buoy or other boat. A map, nautical chart.
Demarcation.
Nun-A buoy is not lit, but numbered, red and pointed, and always on the starboard side when returning from the sea, port exit.
Can-A buoy is not lit, but numbered, green and flat, and always on the port side when returning from the sea, leaving the starboard side.
