Math please help me with finding out what steps can be resolved?
A bridge is 150 meters above the water. From the ends the bridge, the angles of depression of a buoy moored in the water just below the bridge is 32 degrees by 47 degrees. Find the length of the bridge to the metro close. Answer is 380 meters in the first book I'm using.
Hi, you can make 2 triangles at the ends of the bridge, to the point of float under the bridge, on the opposite side of the triangle to the two triangles have a height of 150 m. Since you are looking for the adjacent side of each triangle to find the distance across the bridge to the buoy, use the tangent function. The 2 equations are just (32 °) = 150 / X and so (47 °) = 150 / X. These can be re-written and solved: tan (32 °) = 150 / x = x 150/tan (32 °) x = 240.05 meters from the end with the angle as 32 ° (47 °) = 150 / XX = 150/tan (47 °) X = 139.88 meters from the end at an angle of 47 ° The total distance across the bridge is 240.05 + 139.88 = 379.93 meters.
