Wave power generators of the Sea

Anyone who has played in the waves of the ocean or experienced the flow of a river, he felt the pull outgoing or incoming surf, acknowledging that there is energy contained in moving bodies of water. Harnessing that energy to create electricity has been in third position, behind solar and wind energy as alternative energy source.

But now, advances in technology are changing this situation. Commercially viable production prototypes and operating assets in the current wave farms producing electricity successfully. World Energy Council described wave energy as a concentrated form of solar energy. With three-quarters of the earth covered with water, wave power is an inexhaustible source of energy clean.

Wave power-a brief history

Wave power has been used as early in human history as 1100 in Egypt and what is now France and Russia. Wave power during this period was used to grind grain.

One of the earliest patents known there was a Frenchman named Girard in Paris and was dated 1799. Diminished interest, as it did for the wind, during the industrial era when he became cheap fossil fuels, easy to find and more efficient to use.

In 1909, the then California Wave Energy Company created electricity that was used to provide electricity to the docks in California.

Yoshio Masuda, in 1940, uses wave power to the lights navigation light.

Interest in wave energy reinforced in 1973 when the Arab nations invoke an embargo on oil exports.

Universities around the world embarked on research to harness the power of the wave at institutes such as MIT and the U.S. Naval Academy in this country. As a side note, the U.S. Navy is very involved in the use of green energy sources and is pushing away from a dependence on supplies foreign oil. In other countries, people involved in the technology of wave energy to the University of Edinburgh and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. After the oil began to flow again, the investigation slowed. At the forefront of research today is the University of Oregon, which has been associated in various facilities along the coast of Oregon.

Now, with rising costs of fossil fuels and concerns about the effects on the environment of global climate change, advances in energy technology to produce wave energy are in full swing.

Waves-how they form

As the sun heats the earth's surface creates uneven heating, which, together with the rotation land creates wind. Waves are formed by the wind passing over the surface of the water. Since the energy is transferred to water which forms ripples, then, as the wind follows the release of energy in the surface water wave forms. If this process continues for a prolonged period, surface water, waves are formed. These waves can travel long distances without substantial energy loss.

The World Energy Council estimates that the energy produced by the force of lands waves produce twice the amount of electricity currently created by all other sources of electrical energy production, including coal and natural gas. This would be done without hazardous emissions generated by coal and natural gas plants. For a complete list of contaminants and the effects of Energy coal Loft

Wave-energy technology

A number of companies have entered the field of wave energy generation. Some are funded by private tea companies themselves. Others are supplemented by subsidies or incentives public entities. The countries of Portugal, Scotland, Spain and Australia large investments in this technology.

Ocean Powered Technology (OPT) is headquartered in New Jersey Pennington. PowerBouy TPO has been commercially deployed in six locations: Atlantic City, NJ, Oahu, Hawaii, SantoƱa, Spain, Hayle, England, Reedsport, Oregon and Cruz Bay, Oregon.

On Oahu, OPT is working with the U.S. Navy and Marines at the base Navy supply of electricity from offshore PowerBouy matrix.

As you can see from the photographs, most of the PowerBouy is located under the ocean surface and, with its design, can be used to mount the navigation signals. Communication devices and monitoring equipment also can be mounted on the buoy. They have designed their trademark Talk about water allows boaters to use cell phones at sea, a great benefit to sailors in an emergency.

Wavegen Voith Hydro Limited is headquartered in Germany with offices and manufacturing facilities in Inverness, Scotland in North Sea. In Islay, Scotland, Voith Hydro has a tidal turbine generator built on the coast that resembles a concrete bunker.

Its coast outside the tidal current turbine looks like a wind turbine, but this is under water, as seen in this video produced by Voith Hydro. The leaves are about 26 feet in diameter and seven stories tall.

Energy Pelamis Wave Ltd. is headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland. Your Energy of Pelamis wave converter looks like a segmented snake that is partially submerged in its deployment. The boards of the hydraulic cylinders that incorporate the liquid high pressure pump through the engine when the wave passes through the unit.

Peel the units used in commercial operation in the first Agucadoura wave, Portugal and a project phase is planned for the near future

No doubt there are many other companies and designs, but these are good examples of work being done in the field of wave energy generation.
