Tips and Techniques for ice fishing safety

Falling through thin ice kills many people each year. Knowing the conditions and thickness Ice can save your life or the life of someone close. The fishermen and fishermen rely on the ice during the winter to support their fishing spot completely. Sometimes, homes are can throw on the ice in search of refuge. In these situations the knowledge of ice thickness
definitely save your life.

Beware of ice covered with snow because the snow insulates the ice that prevents the creation of solid ice. Snow-covered ice also makes it difficult to verify the accuracy of thickness. Stay away from cracks, pressure ridges, slushy, cracks or darker areas. Ice that forms around partially submerged objects such as trees, shrubs, retaining walls are usually thinner and prone to breaking.

Always a good idea for ice fishermen and fishermen to drill holes the test as they go farther into the lake. This is because the ice can vary in thickness from one part of the lake to the other. Daily changes in temperature that the ice may shrink and expanding so be sure to inquire at stores around bait or with local people before leaving.

There is a guide to how thick ice must be before leaving. Four inches of ice is fine for a group of people walking single file, six inches for snowmobiles and ATV's, twelve inches inches for an automobile and fifteen for a truck or SUV. During the early winter are advised to double these figures.

When you are not sure that the ice should also be wearing a personal flotation device and carry a cell phone. A set of ice picks to pull yourself on the ice will be useful if you are falls through.

If someone falls through be sure to act quickly by calling 911 or the equivalent in your area. Never approach the victim that has fallen on the ice. Try to reach the victim with a long pole, a rope, or something long. If you can not do that, throw the victim a life jacket or any floating object it can find. Just go to the victim, if you can not do anything else, do this by forming a human chain around the world lies down and grabs the person in front of the ankles.

During the winter, hypothermia can set in very quickly. You might try this by removing wet clothing for victims and its replacement with dry clothes. If you have one available, you can place the victim in a sleeping bag. Take immediately to hospital for further treatment.

With this knowledge we can have a safer trip and possibly save someones life in the process.
