Active Denial System
The Active Denial System, also known as ADS is a less lethal, directed energy weapons was instituted by the army U.S.. It is a strong millimeter-wave transmitter usually used for crowd control. Some systems such as ADS Active Denial HPEM also placed on Instead of disabling the vehicle. It is sometimes known in informal settings like the beam of pain. Raytheon is present in the marketing of a narrow range version this type of technology. There is a claim that the Active Denial System is being considered for use in the Iraq war.
The Active Denial System works by directing electromagnetic radiation mainly microwave radiation of high frequency with a frequency of 95 GHz, which is identical with a wavelength of 3.2 mm, in the subject (s). Waves cause a sharp, painful sensation of extreme heat in the outermost layer of skin. Do not burn the skin during regular use. The feeling of ardor experienced is almost identical to the feeling of a incandescent light bulb pressed against the skin. The beam is released can be directed to targets at a distance of 700 meters. The device is capable of penetrating thick clothing, but still not able to penetrate the thickness of the wall. The 95 GHz frequency is profoundly higher than the 2.45 GHz microwave oven.
A spokesman for the Air Force Research Laboratory had this to say about his experience as a test subject Ad: "For the first millisecond, it felt like the skin is heated then became more and more hot and felt like I was on fire as soon as you away .. the beam of skin returns to normal and no pain ".. While the effects can be unpleasant, Active Denial System has been thoroughly tested, and that launched more than 12 years ago. Much of the research have remained undisclosed, make an independent evaluation, comprehensive system unworkable. Design beam allows only affect an individual for a brief moment. This is achieved through presets and security features that keep the effects of ADS. However, This setting may be changed by the operator. A public statement once stated that they have not been more than 10.700 "shots" by the ADS. The Active Denial System is currently restricted to be operated while mounted on a vehicle. Marines of the United States and police are working on portable versions for use.
A fully operational system and assembly was demonstrated on 24 January 2007, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, USA. A Reuters correspondent who volunteered to be shot with the beam during the exhibition, said it was "similar to an explosion of a very hot oven too painful -. to bear without diving for cover "
The full effect of the radio frequency on humans have been studied by the military for many years, and some research has been published in peer-reviewed journals.
The principal target for the development of this system is not entirely as a result fathomableand has been an area of controversy.
