What is a great all life jacket or layer of life for the navigation of the Pacific Northwest?
I recently bought a sailboat that I like that life itself – but I am a novice sailor. The boat was pretty beat up with two life jackets and I replace them with something wonderful, lightweight, colorful and easy store. The price is a problem – I've seen some jackets in the hundreds of dollars. What is a great all lifejacket / PFD? Thanks for your advice!
Several options come to mind. The most comfortable, but expensive are the life jackets (PFD's called today) which are designed to bend Kyaking because easily at the waist. I found some good ordinary (non-type kayak) in a remarkable low prices at Wal-Mart. Do not bother with the necks of horses, you and your guests are less likely to use them. West Marine I found was not a good place to buy PFD into account the price. The life jacket coats are good if not too hot, but probably will be sailing in what we call summer here in the Pacific Northwest, so a nylon vest that wraps around the torso is the best. They make some women who allow the most chest too. Those with a nylon panel (not just strings) on the sides are better in cold water, but hard to find. Good Luck. Try to keep the boat upright, but always wear your PFD in case of being beaten by the rise and thrown overboard!
