Downrigger Fishing Tips and Tricks
Downrigging tips and techniques for the experienced fisherman.
Downrigging is undoubtedly the most accurate way to control fishing lure depth next to be anchored with a heavy weight on the bottom. With a little experimentation and a little patience, along with maintaining records can be very good at reaching the desired depth, this being thought to be fish. Or, usually, your fish finder is showing that they are.
My personal preference is the electric cannon downriggers for several reasons. I've had a few other brands I will not mention by name or simply collapsed or rusted well long before I felt I had had the courage of my money.
Canyon now makes a system very downrigging sophisticated but let's talk about simple electrical appliances called Mag 10TS Magnum is the downrigger that serious boat captains trust for its reliability and durability. They rely on its unparalleled toughness, the fastest retrieval rate on the market (250 feet per minute) and a short feature-Stop, which protects the boat from swinging weights exceeding holes in the side of the boat. The Mag 10TS features a sleek white metal finish and a stainless steel reel is strong enough to Today's drive or monofilament popular "super lines." It also has the positive control of ions to create an attractive field of electric fish around the boat.
The first thing you need to know is the depth and speed with which the drag. The fastest and / or deeper than troll, the heaviest weight need to offset the drag of the water. Most of the Great Lakes downrig salmon fishermen use a five-pound ball, because they are only 1.5 drag to 3 mph and 15 to 30 feet deep, so the drag is not so great. By contrast, a deep-sea fishing for grouper downrigging can be up to 60 or more and drag at 5 knots, which is a lot of drag and would be better served with a weight of 20 pounds.
After determining the weight size you need is time do some experiments before going to fish. Reach a depth of all the same to be fishing. Set the boat speed to the speed you think you need for the species they target. The fall of the ball all the way until you feel the power of wandering. Quickly stop the decline and begin to retract the cable until tight again. Check the depth gauge on the rig and take into account the weight of ball, speed, water depth and the depth of the reading on the downrigger.
From there, experiment with different speeds and depth of the cable to record enough information to know how to let out cable to a given speed and depth. You should be able to calculate the amount of wire needed to run May 10 to 20 feet above the bottom as a percentage of cable required to reach the bottom.
Usually remain above 10 feet from the bottom of a couple of reasons. One, do not want to stop something that can not be released and having to cut the cord. And two, I know bottom fishing that will come up that far and farther right to take the bait.
We always maintain our lead line of the ball to the bait or lure at 10 'or less to take advantage of negative ion field around the ball. Any further back you lose that advantage.
All said, Now all you need is a good version of line attached to his ball, a good stout 7 'conventional rod and reel with line of adequate size the right bait and the boat to carry everything in Home downrigging today, you'll be glad you did.
